British workers are increasingly seeing the prospect of taking a business trip as one of the best aspects of their jobs, according to a new report.

Crowne Plaza Hotel and Resorts has interviewed 1,000 business travellers, finding that 54 per cent would be willing to earn less if it meant they could travel more for work, with 81 per cent saying business trips help them to advance their career, while 65 per cent see them as a way to achieve personal goals and pursue travel ambitions.

Furthermore, 55 per cent of those polled said they feel more willing to "seize the day" and make the best of opportunities when they travel for business, while 40 per cent said that getting a chance to escape the office was the most significant perk.

Travel Management Companies (TMCs) should also be aware that an increasing number of UK business travellers are looking to take some time for themselves during business trips, and adjust their service offerings accordingly to ensure that travellers have the flexibility they need.

Of those surveyed, 43 per cent said they are keen to take advantage of any downtime they have during a trip, whether this involves joining a tour to see the sights, immersing themselves in the local culture, or enjoying the regional cuisine.

Mike Greenup, vice-president of brand management for Crowne Plaza, said: "A typical business traveller spends between 21 and 40 nights away each year, and our Crowne Plaza research and guest insights demonstrate that today's business travellers want to maximise their downtime.

"Increasingly, people are using their business trips as an opportunity to discover a new place, work on a personal project or simply enjoy some 'me time'."

Improving and automating your mid and back-office systems can help TMCs to provide a more seamless experience for business travellers. Contact ProCon Solution now to find out how ProTAS can help.
