More and more business travellers are looking to combine their trips with leisure activities, making it more important than ever for Travel Management Companies (TMCs) to pay attention to the burgeoning "bleisure" trend.

This is according to a new report from LateRooms Business, which has carried out a survey of just over 1,000 people in the UK, with the results highlighting a continued boom in bleisure travel in 2017.

Of those polled, 41 per cent said they are keen to increase the number of business trips they take, while 23 per cent say they often request an extra night's stay when travelling for business, as this allows them to explore their destination in their own time.

The report also revealed that UK locations within an easy drive or train ride were ten times more popular as business travel destinations than overseas locales, with London, the Lake District, Edinburgh and Manchester emerging as the leading locations for employees to visit in 2017 - a trend that is expected to continue in 2018.

The growing importance of the bleisure trend was also reflected by the amenities that business travellers are prioritising when booking a hotel. While utilitarian features such as Wi-Fi and connectivity remain of paramount importance, 73 per cent of employees said they look for leisure facilities such as gyms, pools and saunas when travelling for business, while 39 per cent search for hotels with an on-site bar or restaurant.

Graeme Descoteaux, head of LateRooms for Business, said: "The demand for staycations within both the consumer and business travel markets shows no signs of abating, and it's interesting to see employees are now being savvy with their business bookings, using them as an opportunity to take a night away and enjoy cost-effective access to the best of the UK."
